How Commissioner can best use a Local Awards Advisory Group
There are a number of options available to the Commissioner in making full use of the LAAG set up, some of which are included below.
- The Commissioner may wish to make award decisions on their own without appointing a LAAG.
- The Commissioner may delegate decisions to a deputy eg Deputy DC/CC, Chair of the District/County Trustee Board, Chair of District/County Appointments Advisory Committee.
- The Commissioner may decide to retain the final decision on their own but with advice from and support of a LAAG.
- The Commissioner may delegate decisions to a deputy (as above) but with the support of a LAAG.
- The Commissioner may decide to allow the LAAG to submit award recommendations for their final approval.
- Other ways of working are also permitted as long as the final recommendation process and correct level of approval are maintained.
The key consideration is to ensure that the Commissioner seeks to set up a process to support them in their responsibilities in relation to Scout Awards.
