Plusnet and Scouts: Preparing for the Future
Plusnet is partnering with Scouts to enable young people to take the skills they develop each week into an online space.
We are very excited to launch our collaboration with Plusnet with a one-off digital camp Hackathon at our iconic Gilwell Park HQ where young people will be challenged to find ways to make the world better through technology.
Our partnership will also see Plusnet connecting 100 unconnected Scouts HQs across the country with free broadband.
Plusnet and Scouts: Preparing for the Future Hackathon
Ahead of the Plusnet and Scouts: Preparing for the Future Hackathon weekend, Plusnet have conducted research into the social issues that matter most to young people in the UK – the environment, mental health, disability awareness, homelessness, refugees and the community.
The research found that:
- 65% young people felt that plastic pollution was the major problem affecting the environment today
- 45% said that online bullying was the biggest cause of mental health issues in young people
- 56% felt that a lack of support and understanding from society was the biggest issue facing people living with hidden disabilities
Facilitated by The Raspberry Pi Foundation, the one-off hackathon will see attendees use the power of online connectivity to code solutions to these issues before presenting their inventions to a judging panel made up of representatives from Plusnet, Scouts, The Raspberry Pi Foundation and TV presenter Reggie Yates.
The Scouts in attendance at the event will receive a fun badge commemorating the Hackathon.
Following the event, Plusnet will design and release a ‘Hack at Home’ pack so young people nationwide can get involved and use their digital skills to take on the social challenges using technology.
Plusnet was born in 1997 with a simple plan – to think and act differently from other communications providers and save consumers and businesses money. That's not changed since the day Plusnet launched; over 20 years later Plusnet is still providing great value phone, broadband and mobile services nationwide, from the HQ in Yorkshire.
Plusnet pride themselves on offering the best customer service out there; and have a stack of awards to prove it. Plusnet have always taken pride in having a great relationship with their customers. They think it's only fair to talk openly and honestly with them. They help fix problems and talk about pretty much anything related to broadband over on their Community site, blogs and forums
