Bear Grylls introduces the latest issue

When I heard about Scout Community Week I knew it was something that could make a real difference to millions of people in the UK. It’s going to be our biggest week of action in decades and I am really excited about it.

Scouts will be helping out in hospitals, protecting wildlife, looking after the homeless and giving young people who have never even dreamt of an adventure the chance to have one of their very own.

Whether it’s in villages, towns or cities, it’s about doing projects that are relevant to our own communities. Because it’s also a fundraising project, we can make sure we get to help those who need it most; and helping others is at the heart of what we do in Scouting.

The possibilities of what could be achieved in one week of national action are huge. What a way to heal our communities from the inside out. So spread the word, think big and, together, let’s get out there and make a life-changing difference.

And remember: everything we do as scouts creates a ripple effect. So let’s make sure that everyone who comes into contact with us comes away inspired and blessed. That’s what we do as scouts: we inspire others around us and we make the world a little brighter. Now that’s a cool mission!

I’ll see you there.

PS. No doubt you have heard the incredible news about HRH The Duchess of Cambridge becoming a scout volunteer. She has such a busy life which makes it all the more inspiring that she has chosen to support us. I will write about this fully in the next issue!
