DofE adult volunteer training requirements

The DofE run training modules for adult volunteers using an online learning platform, which lets you complete training at your own pace using desktop and mobile apps, in a way that suits you, at a time that suits you.

You start with the Foundations Pathway and then add on other modules relevant to your role. We have added Scouting content including how the DofE runs within Scouting, links to other top awards and how to run an expedition in Scouting.

Foundations Pathway

This module is for all  those supporting the DofE and takes around 50 minutes. It covers an introduction to the award and roles. You will need an eDofE account to access the learning and you can book onto the pathway via the DofE Opportunity Finder.

Need a DofE account? Please contact your County/Area Advisor or email dofe@scouts.org.uk for support.

Delivering the DofE Pathway

This module follows on from the Foundations Pathway and is for anyone supporting the delivery of the award.

The pathway consists of around 40 minutes online learning followed by a 90 minute facilitated discussion (bookable via the learning platform) and a final assessment. This gives a detailed look at the sections, what a DofE journey looks like for participants and the systems and tools to make the programme a success.

You can book onto the pathway via the DofE Opportunity Finder.

Expedition Assessor and Supervisor Pathway

This module follows on from the Foundations Pathway and is for anyone supporting the delivery of the expedition section as an assessor or supervisor.

The pathway consists of around 2 hours online learning followed by a 90 minute facilitated discussion (bookable via the learning platform) and a final assessment. The module looks at the DofE roles which support the expedition section and what needs to happen before, during and after the expedition to ensure participants have a safe, high quality and rewarding experience.

To find out more about being a DofE Assessor in Scouting visit the Guidance for Expedition Assessors page.

You can book onto the Expedition Assessor and Supervisor Pathway via the DofE Opportunity Finder

Award Verifier Pathway

This module follows on from the Foundations Pathway and is for DofE advisors who verify awards. You need to be a County/Area Advisor or be nominated by your County/Area Advisor to attend.

The pathway consists of around 90 minutes online learning and a final assessment. It builds on the concepts introduced in the previous Foundation Pathways and gives Award Verifiers a detailed look at the importance of the role, the skills needed to navigate eDofE, keeping up with DofE programme changes and how they should apply this knowledge when approving awards.
