Outdoor and adventure

The aim of the Outdoor and Adventure Zone is to allow your Explorer Scouts to experience adventurous activities that they will not easily find elsewhere.

The Outdoor and Adventure Zone includes activities at all levels, from a stroll in the park to scaling mountains.

Benefits

The benefits of experiencing activities in the Outdoor and Adventure Zone:

  • experience the excitement of the outdoors

  • encourage teamwork and participation

  • discover new environments safely

  • increase confidence in your Explorers' abilities

  • gain leadership qualities and qualifications

  • develop skills associated with traditional Scoutcraft

  • plan and complete expeditions.

When undertaking any activity, particularly an outdoor activity, the relevant rules should always be followed. Rules and advice can be found in Policy, Organisation and Rules and from local activities advisers.

There are no rules as to whether girls and boys can sleep in the same tents on Explorer activities, but good practice suggests that different genders have different accommodation where possible. However, this is a lesser consideration on something like an expedition where it will be safer for a lone girl to share a tent with the boys.

However, if this is to happen, good practice also suggests that the individuals concerned (and their parents) are consulted to ensure that they are comfortable with the arrangements.
