Chief Scout going for gold at The Games
Peter Duncan is in the running to win Channel 4's The Games, and raise funds for Scouting. Every night this week, Peter has been competing against other celebrities in sporting disciplines that include Kendo, vaulting and water-skiiing.
Each of the events is filmed in front of a live audience and on Saturday, local Scouts cheered him on in freezing conditions for the waterskiing challenge. He said, 'It's brilliant to see so many Scouts supporting the event. They all appear to be having such an exciting time, and the banners are all great!' The Chief Scout landed his water-ski jump perfectly, reaching 8.6 meters, which placed him in second position on the leader board. Jack, 10, a Cub Scout from 1st Keyworth, Nottinghamshire said, ‘I enjoyed being at The Games and shouting for the Chief Scout. Watching the canoeing was really exciting! I really want to try that when I'm older.’
Peter also took time out of his busy schedule to meet Scouts and Explorers from Nottinghamshire and was extremely proud to present Explorer Scout Ross with his Chief Scout's Platinum Award. On receiving his award Ross said 'It was great to meet Peter Duncan and it was even better to have my award presented by the Chief Scout himself! It was such a wonderful surprise, I will never forget this!'
The Chief Scout has demonstrated a skilled ability in most events despite being twice the age of most of the other male competitiors and proved to be a real divemaster when he performed a spectacular backflip on Tuesday night. He said 'I'm a touch emotional and was wobbling, but I'm so happy I've won my first event.'
The Games is shown on Channel 4 at 9pm every night this week. The finals are on Friday and the Champion of Champions on Saturday. Peter has chosen The Scout Association as his charity.
