Scouts support Safer Internet Day 2012
07/02/2012
Safer Internet Day is celebrated worldwide in February each year.
We are supporting the campaign to raise awareness of responsible and safe internet use. Leaders will be interested in the range of resources highlighted by the UK Safer Internet Centre aimed at promoting internet safety for young people and advice for parents and teachers.
Connecting generations
The Safer Internet Day 2012 theme is 'connecting generations and educating each other.' Younger internet users are encouraged to teach older family and friends so that generations can share their know-how and discover the digital world together safely.
Parents not in the dark
Despite the belief that younger people are more savvy when it comes to digital technology, UK Safer Internet Centre, have released surprising new research:
- 73% of 9–16-year-olds say they benefit from talking to their parents about internet use.
- 68% of children say their parents always know what they are doing online.
Get involved
To mark Safer Internet Day 2012, UK Safer Internet Centre have organised an inspirational range of UK-wide activities, designed to empower all generations to safely benefit from the internet's wealth of opportunities.
Find out more about the activities and resources you can use by visiting their website.
We also have a range of Stay Safe leaflets for young people focusing on how to stay safe online.
