When will the phone app be updated?

When will the useful iPhone app be updated in line with these changes?
By Lee (08/06/2011 09:30)
Will these changes be updated to the recently released My Badges app for iPhones?
By Victoria Webb (08/06/2011 10:15)
I think the phone app should be rolled out to Android and Blackberry users, the whole world does not revolve around iphone!

What about an app for Blackberry?
By Chris James, Creative and Brand Adviser, The Scout Association (08/06/2011 15:35)
For those who have purchased the MyBadges iPhone app, the updates to the badge requirements will automatically be sent to your phones within the next two weeks. We hope to release an Android version of the app later in the year.

Have amended my Cub Scouting records according to the PDFs on this page but note that the IT Staged Activity Badges in the main Member Resources area on the website do not reflect all the changes as detailed in that PDF. Which is correct please? Also you quote Water Sports Activity Badge. Is this a new name for Water Activities Badge which requires updating on Members Resources area?

I am not in the lest bit bothered about smartphones but I do think someone should have proofread these before they were published.

Are these changes fixed in stone as when you open the link they are listed as proposed, not as the new requirements.

The stage 4 emergency aid exceeds the First Response course requirements, and needed by Young Leader to complete module K. Thus requiring Young Leaders to have a higher minimum level of First aid knowledge than adult leaders. Why is this?

What's the change in the cub collector badge?
By Chris Green (CSL East Sussex) (09/06/2011 19:59)
Why do the requirements in the linked pdfs differ from the website? Were they proofread before being released on the site? Which are we to believe is correct, the site or the pdfs?

Still waiting for those Explorer Scout Camping skills badges to come out.
Please don't forget those Explorers that start their journey at 14 !!

In IT stage 2, what does " Describe what you would use each of the items listed in Stage 1:" mean?
By Jenny (16/06/2011 15:04)
I don't possess any software that requires use of CD-ROM so can't see how this is relevant to IT stage 1. Also I'd struggle to use webcam/microphone so can't expect Beavers to!

I would like to try and reply to a comment by Simon Emmett

"The stage 4 emergency aid exceeds the First Response course requirements, and needed by Young Leader to complete module K. Thus requiring Young Leaders to have a higher minimum level of First aid knowledge than adult leaders. Why is this?"

You have an interesting point. It is not something i have noticed before. To clarify the position as i see it to be though is that the minimal requirement for adults in scouting is first response. You are Quite right in saying that it appears as though the stage 4 activity badge is higher than that done by adults. therefore we have scouts and explorers who are better suited with their first aid qualifications than the adult warrants who's care they are under. However i know from teaching the first response course that the course is far different. Part of first response is Scouting specific. It involves scout rules and regs etc. things not covered in the level 4 staged badge. First response in in my eyes the level that should be taught to all explorers and Level 5 of the staged badge looked at. For me personally i would remove levels 4&5 of the staged activity badge and make first response the gold standard for all 14+ members. Unfortunately the Scout first response does not really hold much sway for me. Dont get me wrong it is a good course and one i very much enjoy teaching but it is not HSE recognised for a start.

I hope that one of the next badges to be re-visited will be the first aid staged activity badge. It is certainly something i would like to be involved in. In the meantime i think the answer is to teach all that you need to cover as a minimum and add for the rest. Personally when i teach the courses i always part use the British Heart Foundations (BHF's) heartstart material too. I teach AED to all partakers too for their personal beneift and award heatstart qualification and certificates to all. I always cover paeds and adults. I am sure that my courses far outdo levels 4&5!!

Thanks to those of you who have helped us by highlighting a couple of errors in the documentation. I can confirm that these changes are finalised, and are as shown in the PDF files. The IT Staged Activity Badge requirements have now been updated in the Member resources area, and the minor errors on headings in the PDF files have been corrected.

In response to particular queries, the change to the Cub Collector badge is simply to remove the example of matchbook covers as an item to collect. The name of the Water Sports Activity Badge (in the Scout section) remains unchanged, as does the name of the Water Activities Activity Badge (in the Cub section).

A Young Leader may complete Module K of the Young Leader Scheme by attending a First Response course, gaining stage 4 of the Emergency Aid badge, gaining the Lifesaver activity badge (in the Explorer section), or gaining any other equivalent qualification.

No one uses a CD ROM these days. For 2 years I've been allowing my Beavers to substitute it with using a search engine to find some info about another Beaver colony. Back in the old days we'd use a CD ROM to find info, but not since the internet came along.
