Think you know Scouting? Think again

08/10/2010

Please be aware, the information in this article is no longer current.

If you still think Scouting is just about boys, tents and woggles, then take a look at our brand new video - you might just change your mind.

With over 200 activities on offer and half a million members (including 60,000 girls) Scouting offers everyday adventure to young people and adult volunteers.

If you would like to have fun, take part in outdoor (and indoor) adventures, learn new skills and give young people the opportunity of a lifetime - then why not think about becoming a volunteer for Scouting?

Great promotional video. But can we, the Scout Leaders download it anywhere so we can use it for recruitment purposes?

Brilliant - that will definately come in handy as we promote Scouting in the County.

Brilliant video. Can this be produced on DVD/CD by Gilwell please. We could then buy as we are not all computer experts! Some of us may not know how to link/download, etc.

I am from India. Scouting has made me what I am today and I am trying to give back whatever I can in return. I am constantly looking for new ideas for even in India things are changing fast and young people are not happy just with old fashined Scouting. the Principles still hold good, so do the traditional activities of knots, first aid, hiking, camping, orienteering and what not. Still any new view is worth having and worth searching for. thanks for what your have done. I am taken in by the passion shown. Thanks, Goddpath and Good hunting as we say in this part of North East India. One last word India celebrates the foundation Day of Bhaat Scouts and Guides on 7th of November. Please pray for us. Fr. John.

Fantastic...Is it possible to get hold of the dialogue in text as it would be great to use to tone and what's being said in recruiting new adult members

This was OK. I thought it important to stress the role of Scouts in the Community as well as the fun of sporting activities that you can get anywhere. More importantly there was no mention of the Law and Promise that makes Scouting different to any other organisation. Why leave this out? I was pleased to see that there were not too many Scouts without a woggle and their shirts hanging out of their trousers or skirts. The uniform should be worn smartly and with pride not sloppyly as is seen so much these days. Well done.

Thought the video was very crisp, modern and would grab people who don't know about Scouting, if I wasn't already a volunteer, I soon would be. Good Luck

We showed this to a room of mayors and dignitaries followed by a tour of our camp site and Pulse 2010 and they were really impressed. A lot of them expected to see boys tying knots and instead saw what modern Scouting is all about.

Good video and perfect as an intro to 21st century Scouting.
