Scouts, supporters and donors enjoy good reception

14/10/2011

Scouting Ambassadors, UK Scout Fellows, donors and supporters gathered for our Annual Reception at Watermen’s Hall, London earlier this week.

The event was an opportunity for us to say thank you in person to those who continue to support Scouting and help us to deliver over 200 activities for young people.

Shared volunteer experience

Explorer Scouts Jamie Ferguson from Northern Ireland and Erin Billington from Market Harborough introduced the evening.

The 80-strong audience listened intently as Erin described attending the 22nd World Scout Jamboree with Scouts from Papua New Guinea and her involvement as a volunteer at her local cycle club.

Jamie gave a personal account of how Scouting in Northern Ireland was bringing young people together; crossing borders and religious divides.

Connecting communities

Martha Lane Fox, UK Digital Champion, joined in to talk about how Scouting was helping her on her ‘crazy mission’ to engage as many people as possible with the internet through the Race Online campaign.

She explained how the internet was helping people to find work, reduce bills, improve educational attainment as well as bringing disadvantaged communities together.

Ambassador support

The event was also supported by two of our Scouting Ambassadors, Justin King of Sainsbury’s and Richard Harpin of HomeServe as well as major funders including Jack Petchey, Peter Harrison and The Freemasons’ Grand Charity.

If you would like more information about joining the UK Scout Fellows scheme or our Scouting Ambassador programme, please call Jenni Anderson on 020 8498 5453.

It's a shame that we can only show them a video of what scouting's about instead of demonstrating scouting to them in real time! Sure you can have all the nice bit afterwards to say thank you, but nothing shows what we do better than a load of young people having a great time enjoying the adventure...
