Scouts explore new activity on TV

22/09/2010

If participating in a new activity isn’t adventurous enough, then six Somerset Scouts recently found themselves doing so in front of a BBC film crew and you can watch their experiences on the BBC iPlayer.

The six from a Somerset-based Group spent a day of their summer holidays at Lyme Regis ‘fossilteering’ – an interesting activity is a mixture of fossil hunting and orienteering.

The team’s escapades were followed by the CBBC Natural History programme, Live ’n’ Deadly and the results will be screened on BBC2 and the CBBC channel at 9am on Saturday 25 September.

Exploration

The Scouts were challenged to discover more about the huge and deadly monsters that once lurked off the beach at Lyme Regis. They were led by a local geologist, exploring the Jurassic coast, making puzzles of monsters and looking for ammonites.

As amazing experiences go, this is sure to be one that won’t be quickly forgotten by the participants and they had many tales to take back to their Taunton Group.

The Natural History unit of the BBC in Bristol are making a series of Live ’n’ Deadly programmes to encourage young people to become interested in the natural world around them. You can find out more on the Live ’n’ Deadly website

I was in Lyme Regis when they were recording it - it was good to see scouts and cubs on activities together (and they looked like they were enjoying themselves).
