Chief Scout Bear Grylls thanks all Scouting volunteers
04/06/2010
This week has seen Volunteers' Week take place across the UK. Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make day in day out.
The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.
'Thank you... for being part of the Scouting adventure'
As part of the annual event, Chief Scout Bear Grylls has recorded a special thank you message to the thousands of adult volunteers who give up their time to make Scouting happen: 'Thank you so so much for joining us as a volunteer and being part of the Scouting adventure.
'Like me I'm sure you fit your volunteering around a very busy lifestyle, but my mum used to say if you want something doing ask a busy person. I'd really like to say a massive thank you to you on behalf of all the young people who benefit from Scouting. It's basically because of what you do. Together you make the adventure possible.'
There is never a dull moment in Scouting
Adults working in Scouting contribute in excess of 364 million hours of voluntary work each year to their local communities.
As a Scout volunteer there is never a dull moment. With the huge variety of opportunities Scouting offers, Scouting is a great way to experience new things, learn new skills to jump start your education or career, make new friends and have a positive impact on young people in your community.
Scout volunteers help young people experience over two hundred different challenging and exciting activities; including kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing and expeditions abroad. But that's not all. You can also help by running a Scout Group’s website, keeping their accounts or running their weekly meetings. Opportunities are based on the time you can give, how you want to develop and your skills and interests.
The largest mixed youth movement in the UK...
The Scout Association is the largest mixed youth movement in the UK. It strives to ensure that its young people fulfil their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. Join the adventure.
