It's simple Simon, Scouts love Lucie

10/11/2009

Scouts from across the UK have expressed shock at Lucie Jones' departure from X Factor, after judge Simon Cowell backed Dublin twins John and Edward Grimes at her expense.

Cowell had previously claimed he’d leave the country if the twins – nicknamed ‘Jedward’ by the tabloid press - won the competition.

Lucie first displayed her singing talents as a Scout at the 2007 World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Chelmsford. There, in front of 40,000 young people and Prince William, she performed the song Jambo as part of Scout pop band The Adventure.

Since Sunday night, The Scout Association has been inundated with calls from Scouts expressing their upset and offering messages of support to Lucie.

Chief Scout and TV adventurer Bear Grylls has sent a personal message of support telling her to ‘keep smiling’ and that she ‘did amazingly on X Factor’.

He said to her, ‘I am sure this will certainly be the beginning of an exciting journey for you… Keep your roots, keep your head, walk humbly, dream big and keep the faith.’

Scouts are proud of Lucie

Chris Foster, spokesperson for The Scout Association, described Lucie’s performances throughout the competition as ‘unbelieveable.’

He said, ‘We are incredibly proud of her for going from the Jamboree to seek fame and fortune. She has done us proud with all she has achieved, and by taking defeat so graciously.

‘When we saw her perform in 2007, you could see that she was a special talent and an absolutely delightful young lady.

‘She was everything you would expect a Scout to be, helpful, polite and with a strong sense of adventure.’

After the Jamboree performance, the song reached the UK charts and the band recorded a music video played on BBC television.

The World Scout Jamboree takes place every four years in a different country. It is a tradition that each country hosting a Jamboree is responsible for writing and recording a celebratory song.

Jambo by The Adventure (featuring Lucie Jones) is available to buy from iTunes or 7Digital.

I thought Lucie's rendition in the sing off of "One Moment in Time" was one very special moment in time & I hope your future is filled with very special moments too - thank you Lucie x

Defo she should have won, (a), I saw her live at WSJ '07 and (b) had the priviledge and honour of working along Lucie as part of the Live '07 cast. I strongly urge all those who have worked with her in a performing capacity to attend the Live Tour next year in uniform with centenary/Live '07 neckers and toggles where possible. I am now boycotting the X-Factor because of Lucie going out due to cowardice of Simon Cowell.

This article is inaccurate Simon did not back the twins he took it to deadlock and the public vote, lucie (who has never mentioned scouts once in he's time on x factor) had less votes than the twins, if scouts did indeed love her she wouldn't have been bottom of the pile.

Cowell's u-turn was to create his own publicity - which worked. But it should not have been at the expense of any of the other contestants - especially our Lucie. She did nothing wrong and everything right - and I had her down to win it! She was excellent. I hope she gets a recording contract and shows there is life after X-factor - with or without Simon Cowell.
By the way wasn't the Jambo at Hylands Park?

Surely there is a Scout Leader somewhere who has a music recording background, can't the biggest family in the world help a fellow member?

We cant loose this talent!!

What a travesty - knocked out by Jedward no less. Mr Cowell, you should be ashamed. YOU were the one who said it was a singing competition. Guess it all comes down to publicity and money, not good honest decency. Shame on you.

Lucie, I hope this isn't the end for you, someone with some sense must pick your career up and give it the impetus it deserves.

We were gutted that Lucie had to go on Saturday, but on reflection, maybe it's better for her - she can now find the right place for herself without Simon Cowell manipulating her future - ALL THE BEST lUCIE.
