Simon Weston becomes President of Scouting in Wales
25/09/2009
Falkland’s veteran Simon Weston has agreed to become President Elect of the Welsh Scout Council.
His role will include representing the Welsh Scout Council at a variety of public events and to be an ambassador for ScoutsWales.
Jill Gloster, Chief Commissioner, said, 'We are delighted Simon has agreed to take over the role of President. At a time of growth across Wales, Simon will be a great motivational figurehead for both young people and adult volunteers.'
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Gareth Williams, added, 'Simon will be an inspiration to us all. His drive, determination and optimism, which are characteristic in all he does, are qualities we endeavour to encourage throughout Scouting.'
'I am looking forward to representing Scouts in Wales at a variety of events,' said Simon. 'Scouting has changed so much in recent years that I am anxious to learn more about the amazing range of activities available. I hope that I can inspire more adults to give up some of their time to help with the organising and support of Scouting.'
Simon will be formally introduced at the Council’s annual general meeting in October.
