The World Scout Moot is an international gathering of over 5,000 Scouts aged 18 to 25 years old from around the world, coming together to share cultures, learn from each other and gain new skills.

Every four years, the Moot takes place in a different host country. The first Moot took place in 1931 in Switzerland, and most recently was hosted by Iceland in 2017.

Participant experience at a Moot is split into two halves, the first half is a 'Path', exploring the host country in a patrol made up of Scouts from different nationalities. The second half is an on-site Jamboree-style camp along joining up with all the other participants.

The next Moot will take place in Portugal from 25 July to 3 August 2025, and Scouts intends to organise a UK National Contingent of several hundred members, to prepare for and travel to this event.

The UK Contingent will include

A large number of participants will be Scout Network Members, and must be aged between 18 and 25 on the first day of the event (born between 26 July 1999 and 25 July 2007).

For the event, participants will join an International Patrol made up of 10 Scouts from around the world. Each group of 5 Patrols will form a Tribe who will live the Moot experience together.

A medium-sized International Service Team (IST) of adult volunteers who are aged 26+ by the first day of the event (born before 26 July  1999). Our amazing IST make the Moot happen, supporting the organisers to deliver the event for participants to enjoy.

A small Contingent Management Team (CMT) who will plan and deliver the UK Contingent journey before, during and after the Moot

What happens at a Moot?

After the opening ceremony, participants will join their Patrols and Tribes for the Portugal Deep Dive. Following a path, participants will take in everything Portugal has to offer, exploring the local communities, culture, food, adventure, nature and more.

After the paths, everyone will come together at the Main Camp for four nights of cultural and international experiences. This is a jamboree-style camp, meeting friends old and a new, taking part in global development sessions, sharing cultures and more. Main Camp will finish with a closing ceremony.
