Light a beacon for the Jubilee

There are many ways Scouts can get involved, one of which is to take part in the Jubilee Beacons project. There is a long history of lighting beacons to celebrate Royal events. The aim for the Diamond Jubilee is to light 2,012 throughout the UK.

How to take part

Wear the Jubilee Badge

Queen Diamond Jubilee BadgeAs an accompaniment to the resource, Girlguiding UK and The Scout Association have joined together to produce an official badge to mark the celebrations.

The badge is available from both organisations for £1 and can be worn as a uniform item up until the end of 2012.

A collection of gifts and souvenirs celebrating this special occasion have also been produced. From limited edition coins to key rings there is a product for everybody to mark the Jubilee.

Insuring your royal celebrations

If your Scout Group is organising its own Jubilee celebrations, you are already covered under The Scout Association Public Liability Policy protecting your legal liability for any injury to the public or damage to their property. Unity (Scout Insurance Services) can also arrange cover for other risks such as cancellation of the event, hired in equipment and your Group’s money.

If you are jointly arranging events with non-Scout organisations, you’ll need to check whether you are covered with Unity.

If you have any insurance questions about your Jubilee celebrations or any other event, speak to the Unity team on 0845 0945 703.
