Malvern District Scout Fellowship
Malvern Scout Fellowship exists to provide ongoing support to Scouting in and around Malvern. We do this by responding to requests for help from Groups and also within the District. Some members are also attached to Groups within the District. We have an active and engaging programme including:
District Cub orienteering
An event that we have organised for a number of years now that proves very popular with the Cubs. It takes place on the old hills which are near Malvern and is common land with trees and scrub, which is very interesting for those taking part.
District swimming gala
We also assist with the swimming gala that is held at Ledbury swimming pool.
St. George's Day Parade
We provide support for the annual St George's Day Parade, which is usually held in Malvern Priory Church, the largest church in Malvern. We help with setting out the church, with the order of service, and with the march, which is usually from the Library grounds to the church. It's a great event that gives Scouting a chance to show what we have got to offer the community.
Working weekends at the District site
Working weekends take place frequently at the District campsite and we have completed a number of substantial projects. These have included building the assault course and many other jobs too such as painting, making racking... anything that needs doing we turn our hands too. We also help with the day to day running of the site taking bookings and welcoming visitors. During these weekends we usually stay at the site in the accommodation building; it's a great atmosphere.
Working weekends at other sites
We have held a number of these weekends over the years at different sites including Kinver Camp, Rhydd Covert and many more. We have fun while we get the jobs done.
Weekends away
There are several weekends a year. Last year we went to Croyde in North Devon for the weekend, which involved a day of walking around the coast and also games on the beach. The most recent camp was to Buddens Scout site in Dorset, where we visited the Tank Museum. In both 2005 and 2006 we enjoyed a canal boat holiday.
Operation Bald Eagle
This is an event that the Malvern Fellowship have been involved in for a number of years now. It is an incident hike over about eight miles as well as an onsite day challenge. Teams have to complete various challenges over the weekend both on the site and around the course. We provide support to the service team as well as marshal the route.
