National Jewish Scout Fellowship
Did you know that there were three hundred Jewish Scouts and Leaders from ten different countries at the 21st World Scout Jamboree, and that they all got together to pray and eat on Friday night at the beginning of their Shabbat (Sabbath)? Jewish Leaders, representatives of the International Forum of Jewish Scouts (IFJS), organised the Jewish section of the Faith and Beliefs zone at the Jamboree, running activities for a thousand Scouts per day. They also arranged for kosher food to be provided for all the participants. Their UK members are from the newly formed National Jewish Scout Fellowship (NJSF), which runs events for all Jewish members such as activity camps, fun days and social gatherings. They also advise The Scout Association on issues affecting Scouting and provide activity ideas and resources for all Scout groups with or without Jewish members. Did you know that there are many Jewish boys and girls aged from five to fifteen who would like to join Scouting but, due to the lack of Leaders in Jewish groups, are unable to do so and sit on waiting lists?
