Berkshire Scout Enterprises - Dick Sawdon Smith

Berkshire Scout Enterprises is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, formed in 1985 by members of the Scout Fellowship in response to growing youth unemployment. The company has worked with various programmes over the years training young people to gain employment. The current programmes are part funded by the European Social Fund and the youth charity v. The company has supported and sponsored Scouting activities locally, nationally and internationally over many years. For example it supported the UK Uganda Network, and contributed to provisions for 150 Scouts to visit Uganda for the Millennium and participate in community and social activities. As a result of this project the company went on to support the Bulangira Disables Association in Uganda and was involved in the setting up of the UK Africa Network. The company also provides services for Berkshire Scouts, including First Response training for Leaders and support for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Building teams have carried out projects at Scout Headquarters throughout the County and at the County Campsite. Computers, equipment, sponsored vehicle hire and minibus use has been provided for County Groups and major camps. The company is presently facilitating the employment of the Local Development Officer for the County Scout Council.
