Faiths and Beliefs
Scouts is an inclusive, values-based movement. We support our members to engage with spirituality in exciting and meaningful ways.
Scouts is for everyone, including all faiths and no faith at all. We identify with all faiths, not exclusively one faith, and we always act in line with our values of respect, care, belief, co-operation and integrity. This means we:
-
Respect people’s beliefs, faiths and cultures
-
Care about others and take care of our world and the communities we live in
-
Explore our own and others’ beliefs and learn about different beliefs in exciting and meaningful ways
-
Co-operate with others and make friends
-
Act with integrity and are honest, loyal and trustworthy.
Exploring beliefs at Scouts encourages young people to develop their own personal beliefs and understand their shared values, whether they’re faith-based or not.
Young people should feel safe at Scouts to engage in personal reflection as they question and develop their opinions and understanding of the world around them. This may be exploring the places, people, communities, celebrations or stories that hold meaning to them.
Whenever we’re exploring faiths and beliefs, we need to make sure activities or events are inclusive for everyone taking part. You may want to check in with your volunteers and young people to make sure everyone, including those with no particular faith or those who identify as atheist or similar, feel comfortable taking part. Any religious or faith-based traditions or requirements should be respected throughout the activity or event.
