In the very rare moments we have between all the hard work we do to help keep the Explorer Section running smoothly (honest!), we here in the Explorer offices have staked out the web to find some of the best musical treats out there, just for you. And look below! There they are listed with a little blurb about what to expect and where to find them.
The Killers – When You Were YoungThey may have been telling anyone who’ll listen how they’ve been listening to Bruce Springsteen and that this is the record where they reclaim their American heritage, but other than a bigger and more polished sound this is pretty much business as usual for The Killers - Nonsensical lyrics with a bombastic pop backing and incessant melody that jams itself between your ears then refuses to budge. Visit their website where you can see the video along with a lot of other killer and no filler.
Ah… the sexy back! For years criminally ignored in popular song as a human asset that provides titillation and pleasure to millions. I mean, think about it, we’ve had songs that mention the wonders of pretty much every other part of the human body, but the sexy back has always been out in the wilderness. How do you think that makes those of us feel whose greatest asset is our sexy back, eh? You get to bump’n’grind along at parties with all your other body parts, but we just have to sit in the corner knowing that no tune is about to kick in giving us a chance to strut our stuff… until now! God bless Justin Timberlake, who has obviously suffered the same humiliation as the rest of us ‘sexy backers’ for a number of years, because here he comes with his frankly rather brilliant song all about sexy backs! And just to make it extra clear, he’s even called it Sexyback! We need never hide away in shame again! Head to his website now to have a listen and join the sexy back revolution.
What do you get if you cross Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ with The Pixies ‘Broken Face’? The answer is the wonderfully spiky ‘Pigtails’ from Nottingham five-piece Love Ends Disaster! Two minutes of ear bashing should not be this much fun! They’re also dashingly handsome… well, except for the bassist, but you can’t have everything, right? Check it out along with some of their other tunes at their website.
Kanye West – Diamonds Are ForeverThe sound of hip hop going widescreen; a sweeping orchestral sample from Shirley Bassey’s ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ with added teeth rattling bass. Kanye West is probably the biggest name in rap at the moment, listening to this it’s not hard to see why. Visit the official website to watch the video.
Well, she used to be a bit hippy chick, but she obviously got bored of all the falafel and incense, as now she’s had a raunchy R&B makeover. This track was all over the charts a few months back and there was nothing more we loved to do in the Explorer office than to dance away on the table tops singing along whenever it came on to the radio. Visit the official website and you can watch a video of the track being performed live, fortunately there is no video evidence of us dancing on the tables in the office… at least, not that we know of.
